Milk Protein (Casein) Fibre - Dyed & Spun

Anne Cook sent us this photo of her hand-dyed skein which she has spun from Milk Protein (Casein) fibre. Her comment is simply, 'love it'!

Casein spun and dyed

The designer fibre is made from casein which is derived from milk. It has many properties similar to wool fibre and can be carded into any fibre to help with drape and breathability. It is ideal spun on its own to make yarn for lingerie, tea shirts, scarves and fabrics with a soft drape. With the feel of cotton, this protein fibre dyes readily with acid dyes.

Acid dyed casein

The image above shows the fibre dyed with acid dyes prior to spinning. The fibre and the resultant yarn have a good sheen and soft handle.
